'Tis the Season, Oklahoma

Here in Oklahoma, I'm always on the hunt for fun new things to do, and now that it's Christmas time, I'm ready to start celebrating. From decorating the tree to baking holiday cookies to watching A Christmas Story for the hundredth time, I love everything about this time of year, but it's fun to start new traditions too. Here's a list of some fun holiday activities for my fellow Oklahomans to join in on:

1. Downs Family Christmas Lights

One of my favorite Christmas traditions is looking at Christmas lights. While driving around town searching for the most extravagantly-lit houses is fun, a family-friendly light show could make for a great outing with your friends, kids, or relatives coming to town for the holidays. Similar to a drive-in movie, the Downs Family Christmas light show allows visitors to park their cars and watch the show for as long as they want. They also collect for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. I've attended this show almost every year that I've lived in Oklahoma, and it's a sweet memory every time! 2. Festival of Light in Chickasha

The Chickasha Festival of Light is one of the most popular among my friends--every December I see at least a dozen Instagram posts from the beautifully lit bridge! This festival has been a tradition for 26 years, and in addition to gorgeous Christmas light displays, the festival offers camel, carriage, ferris wheel and carousel rides, a live nativity, laser tag, and a photo-op with Santa himself. Like the Downs Family show, admission is free and donations are accepted. More info at: https://chickashafestivaloflight.org/

3. Downtown in December

Oklahoma City is full of fun events for the month of December. From shopping to eating to ice skating to Christmas light displays, OKC has it all! More can be found at: https://downtownindecember.com/
